OXO TOWER GALLERY CATALOGUE - 2007
In 2007 GlaxoSmithKline became a major sponsor of the Shifting Perspectives exhibition, allowing the exhibition to tour around the UK for the next three years.
Their sponsorship also allowed us to produce a small catalogue for the show, some of which you can see below.
The photographers involved in the 2007 exhibition were:
Richard Baile,
Raffaello Raimondi,
Rodrigo Raimondi and
Fiona Field.
Raffaello's images are of his brother Rodrigo, who has Down's syndrome.
Raffaello has documented many parts of Rodrigo's life, from his daily life to his interactions with
friends during the day and at parties. The images he chose to show at the OXO were of a swimming gala
that his brother was taking part in.
Rodrigo, through his brother has taken a great interest in photography and he and Raffaello will often go off for days
photographing what is around them.
Rodrigo has a particularly good eye and will stay in one spot until he feels he has the perfect shot.
Fiona Field's work has mainly dealt with the feelings and emotions she has for her daughter Ophir.
In 2006 she moved the work on to interview mothers who had just given birth to children with Down's syndrome.
With photographs and audio interviews she produced a very moving and honest account of the first days a mother has to 'deal' with the fact they have a child with special needs.
In 2007 she was asked to photograph a marriage.
The marriage was of a young lady with Down's syndrome.
The photographs apart from being very beautiful illustrate an important fact that many people might not be aware of.
People with Down's syndrome can and do get married, they can and do fall in love.........
